Students must document
their ability to finance their stay in Norway in order to be granted a
residence permit for study purposes.
Tuition fees
Since the University of Oslo is a state university and therefore publicly funded, there are no tuition fees.Who must document financing?
The Norwegian Immigration Authorities require that citizens of countries outside EU/EEA-area and Switzerland can provide a minimum amount of money required to cover living expenses for one academic year in Norway. Please note that applicants who do not provide satisfactory documentation of financing within the application deadline will be rejected regardless of academic qualifications.Required amount
• NOK 92 500 (approx. 12 200 EUR) for applicants to Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes.How should financing be documented?
Financing must be documented in one of the following ways:• A recent official bank statement/transcript in the applicants name.
• A sponsor guarantee letter + sponsor’s recent official bank statement/transcript. The sponsor should be aware that the required sum must be available as soon as the applicant is admitted.
Sponsors
Many students depend on a sponsor for financial support. A guarantee from a sponsor is a letter in which the sponsor states that he/she is willing to transfer NOK 92 500 if/when the applicant is admitted for studies. The sponsor guarantee must be provided before the application deadline (1 December/1 February). Transfer of funds
Applicants are notified of
admission results in April/May. If admitted they must immediately start
the process of applying for a residence permit.
The
Norwegian Immigration Authorities require that persons applying for a
study permit have NOK 92 500 available in a Norwegian bank account. The
SiO deposit account is set up to assist prospective students in
documenting that they have the required amount of money available in
Norway. When the student (or sponsor) has sucessfully transferred the
funds to the deposit account, the student receives a written
confirmation that he/she can include in the application for residence
permit.Please note that the amount will be locked in the SiO deposit account for the entire period when the student is applying for the residence permit. Once the student has received the residence permit, arrived in Oslo and opened a bank account, the whole amount will be transferred to him/her. If the student is not granted a study permit the amount will be transferred back.
